Black Alumni Chapter Leadership

Rachel Perry '07, President
I loved ODU long before I was admitted as a student. I spent 3 weeks living on campus during the summer of 1998 as a participant in the Engineering & Technology Summer Program. From then on, I knew ODU was where I wanted to spend my collegiate years. I continue to support Old Dominion because of professors, such as Tim Seibles, Carla Harrell and Christelle Redden, who constantly challenged me to extend myself beyond my academic comfort zone. I graduated with a new wealth of knowledge, acquaintances from all over the world and friends with whom I share lifelong bonds. Being an active member of the Black Alumni Chapter affords me opportunities to meet other alumni, keep in touch with fellow Monarchs that I don’t get to see on a regular basis, as well as reach out to the current student body and serve as a mentor for them.

Harold Williams, Jr. '07, Vice President
ODU was my first Home away from home. I was 17 fresh out of New Jersey and the only thing I could tell you about Virginia was the good ham. Since then I have come a long way. Working for the chapter is my way of keeping the connection. I get to speak to Alums and Students, all who may share the same experience and those who have different ones.

Lattoya Tomlinson, Secretary/Treasurer
I love the diversity that ODU offers. When I was seeking a university to attend, I wanted to be part of a diverse culture and ODU was the right chose for me. It had array of people who promoted diversity and helped make my journey remarkable. After graduation, I continue to support the university and volunteer at alumni events. I became involved with the BAC chapter because it gives me the opportunity to connect with others and share with new alumni my ODU memories and experience.

Jarvis Jackson '06, Immediate Past President
ODU is very near and dear to me. It was a great time of my life where I was not only educated academically but also in life. I love and enjoyed my time with friends in student organizations, at Norfolk area events, and Monarch athletic events which made me proud to be an alum. Because of this outstanding experience I felt an obligation to support and give back to the university. Being a part of the Black Alumni Chapter is my way of being able to not only bring together black alums but also help black students like myself through our Ronald L. Horne Scholarship and community service. It is a great feeling to give back to a place that has given so much to me.

Destiny Brown-Elliot '02, Board of Directors
I love to be able not only to give back to my alma mater, but also to work behind the scenes and volunteer for an organization that makes a difference! Old Dominion University has afforded me many opportunities that have made a lasting impression. I was active during my undergraduate studies and truly feel a privilege to continue helping the Monarch cuase wherever needed. I've made lifelong friendships, developed valuable career skills, and thanks to the Batten College of Arts and Letters, I have been able to network and align myself with individuals with common interests. I have pride in ODU and will continue to support its future endeavors.

Jacqueline Greely '04, Board of Directors
While at ODU, I became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, the Human Services Counseling Association, the Resident Assistant Association and was an active and certified volunteer with a local rape counseling organization in Norfolk, Virginia. I am enjoying being involved with the Black Alumni Chapter because it allows me the opportunity to connect with many new associates and to give back to the University.

Apryl Roberts, Board of Directors
Apryl is the owner of Memorable Events by Apryl, LLC , an event and public relations firm located in Norfolk, Va. I love ODU because it is truly an institution that promotes educational and social growth. I enjoy being a part of the chapter because it allows me the opportunity to stay connected to ODU and bridge a gap between the current events and happenings of the university with the alumni.

Sade' Seaborne '10, Board of Directors
Before starting at Old Dominion in the Fall of 2006, I visited the campus once for preview. I barely knew anything about ODU or the Norfolk area, but this would be my new home away from home for the next four years. Attending Old Dominion gave me the opportunity to get involved with various on-campus organizations. I was able to not only receive an education, but build long lasting relationships. I loved ODU's diversity and dedication to provide endless opportunities to students. With my positive experience and involvement on campus, I decided to join the Black Alumni Chapter. It gives me the chance to give back to my fellow Monarchs as well as stay connected with classmates.

ODU has been one of the best decisions of my life! The technological advances along with the continuously expanding campus allow students and professors to work closely in preparation for the real world. From Preview, to Homecoming, to walking across the ODU University Seal on graduation day, the morale and traditions continue. Being involved in the alumni chapter has allowed me to network and reconnect with many individuals. The networking alone will open doors for many opportunities and hopefully many traditions to come. Aside from the growing camaraderie, the alumni chapter will serve the ODU community in helping others achieve their goals. Go Monarchs!
