Alumni Association Awards




In order to recognize the extraordinary achievements of Old Dominion University alumni, students and faculty, the Alumni Association presents the following awards.

Distinguished Alumni Award
Distinguished Alumni Awards are given annually to graduates who have brought extraordinary honor to Old Dominion University through distinction in their fields.

Alumni Service Award
The Alumni Service Award recognizes Old Dominion alumni for exemplary leadership and significant, compassionate service to community, state and nation.

Outstanding Achievement Award
The Outstanding Achievement Award is the Alumni Association's highest honor given to graduates who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their professional or personal endeavors and are recognized as leaders in their fields.

A. Rufus Tonelson Faculty Award
Named for Alan Rufus Tonelson, one of the first students to enroll at Old Dominion University, this award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate outstanding achievement in teaching, research and service to the community and who embody the balance of all three areas in their work.

Outstanding Scholar Awards
At all commencement ceremonies the student from each college with the highest grade point average and at least 60 completed credit hours is recognized as the Alumni Association's Outstanding College Scholar. Among these, the top graduate also is recognized as the Alumni Association's Outstanding University Scholar.

Athlete of the Year Award
Each spring the Alumni Association selects two student-athletes - one male and one female - to receive the Alumni Association Athlete of the Year Awards. Honorees are selected based on their high quality of sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field of athletic competition during undergraduate years.
