Greetings, Richmond ODU Alumni!

The ODU Alumni Association is over 109,000 strong and the Richmond area is lucky to serve as home to over 3,500 of you! In 2009 a small group began working with the Alumni Association to establish a chapter in our area. It took some time to build momentum but we're well on our way to becoming an official geographic alumni chapter!

Over the past months, we’ve hosted several events including a trip to see ODU football triumph over Virginia Union, socials at the Capital Ale House's Downtown and Innsbrook locations and a basketball watch party at The Home Team Grill. During our two general meetings we established our leadership and defined our standing with the Alumni Association. We've been busy but clearly have had a lot of fun along the way.

We have several ways for you to get involved in the upcoming months. We are gathering on Wednesday, April 21 for a Chapter Membership Meeting at the ODU Richmond Campus. A representative from campus will provide a tour of the facility and share information about some of the programs offered there. We're also organizing a social at the James River Cellars Winery on Friday, May 21 to kick off the summer months.

Part of being a successful chapter is giving back to both ODU and our local community. So, we'll be lending a hand in community service. We're looking for a few volunteers to assist the ODU Admissions Office at an "Admitted Students Day" in Richmond on April 15. If you're interested, please contact Jena Virga in the Office of Alumni Relations for more details. Even if you can't be there in person, encourage any admitted students you know to attend! It might make the difference in their decision. We're also planning to assist with other programs in the area including Habitat for Humanity and the Central VA Food Bank. Details on those opportunities will be discussed at our April Meeting.

The area is filled with Monarch Spirit and we look forward to growing even more! To make sure you stay informed of chapter news and events, please register with the Alumni Association on the Lion's Den and indicate your interest in our chapter under the "Miscellaneous" portion of your online profile. We also encourage you to join our group on Facebook so that our executive board can communicate directly with you.

The Richmond Chapter is here to connect you with ODU despite your physical distance from campus. Join us in supporting the university and be a part of our growing Monarch family.
