On Saturday May 8, a near-perfect spring day, the ODU Alumni Association welcomed the graduating class of May 2010. These new alumni automatically joined our ranks, increasing our network to nearly 115,000 strong.
Graduation week served as a reminder of our important role, as the Alumni Association, in sustaining Monarch Connections. At every party and reception and with each tradition and ceremony we felt privileged to honor and welcome our most recent alumni.
In this edition, we bring you a brief snapshot of the Old Dominion University Alumni Association and a few of our initiatives, benefits and programs. We hope that as you learn more about your alumni association, you are encouraged to get involved, to connect with your former classmates and to support our alma mater– today and in the future.

ODU Alumni Chapters: Connecting Monarchs & Supporting the University
ODU Alumni Chapters offer alumni, parents and friends of the university a way to connect with other Monarchs. These volunteer organizations strengthen the bonds among our alumni while supporting the university's efforts on campus and in their communities. Chapters host social, networking and professional development events, support admissions and new student outreach initiatives as well as participate in community service projects.
The Association currently works with the NOVA / DC Chapter, Richmond Chapter, Black Alumni Chapter and the newly-formed Charlotte Chapter.
Learn more about these groups online and download our Chapter brochure to discover the many benefits of getting involved. |

Celebrating Scholarship & Awarding Excellence
The Alumni Association is committed to the ODU tradition of learning as we provide scholarships, recognize excellence in teaching and reward outstanding graduates.
ODUAA's Adam Thoroughgood Scholarship is awarded annually to exceptional students who demonstrate academic achievement. Scholars may use the award to fund summer tuition, to study abroad or to afford research opportunities. The BAC's Ronald L. Horne stipend helps minority undergraduate students afford textbooks.
The annual Tonelson Award commends an individual faculty member for excellence in teaching, research, scholarly activities and service while the association also recognizes the top students from each college and the graduate with the highest GPA at each commencement ceremony with Outstanding Scholar distinction.
Learn more about ODUAA's awards for students, faculty and graduates. To help us continue this work, please consider a gift to the Dominion Fund in honor of these inspiring scholars.
