2:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sailapalooza, ODU Sailing Center, Whitehurst Beach – ODU sailors and coaches will offer free sailing lessons and sailboat rides. Donations will be accepted on behalf of Operation Smile, a local nonprofit dedicated to repairing childhood facial deformities.
Tuesday, October 1
6:00 – 8:30 p.m., Planetarium Double Feature, Join us for two one-hour programs, each featuring a different family-friendly, full–dome movie and conversation with a member of the faculty. Free.
6:00 p.m. - Two Small Pieces of Glass
While attending a local star party, two teenage students learn how the telescope has helped us understand our place in space and how telescopes continue to expand our understanding of the Universe. Their conversation with a local female astronomer enlightens them on the history of the telescope and the discoveries these wonderful tools have made. The students see how telescopes work and how the largest observatories in the world use these instruments to explore the mysteries of the universe.
7:30 p.m. - Black Holes: Journey into the Unknown
It's no longer the stuff of science fiction — this planetarium show brings to life all that is fascinating and extreme in the world of black holes! Witness what would happen if you got too close to one. See how a black hole is able to warp time and space. Discover what science has taught us about these phenomena ... and what we must still learn. (Narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Geoffrey Rush)

6:00 p.m., LGBT Welcome Reception, The Iguana (Hampton Blvd at 37th St.) – Join the LGBT Alumni Club for an alumni social with fellow Monarchs during Homecoming. Guests pay for their own food and drink.

11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monarch Day, Kaufman Mall – Come out for hours of food, excitement, games, and the presentation of the 2013 Homecoming Court. Free.
6:00 p.m., Alumni Honors Dinner, Sheraton Waterside – Alumni, friends and community leaders will gather in honor of the 2013 Distinguished Alumni, Honorary Alumni, and Alumni Service Award winners. We will also recognize the members of the Class of 1963 with their induction into the Golden Pride. Proceeds support Alumni Association programs including the Adam Thoroughgood Scholarship. Saturday, October 5
10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Open House, Student Recreation Center – Tour this modern facility and learn more about the programs and services it offers ODU alumni, including specially priced memberships. Free.
12:00 Noon, Hall of Fame Luncheon, Hall of Fame Lobby, Ted Constant Convocation Center – ODU will welcome five new inductees into the Hall of Fame: Anna Tunnicliffe Funk, Joe Daley, Nataly Cahana Fleishman, Gray Simons and Ed Fraim. Tunnicliffe is a two-time Olympian and three-time ICSA Singlehanded Collegiate Sailing national champion who won gold in the 2008 Olympics in Laser Radial competition. Cahana was a four-time CAA Tennis Player of the Year, compiling a 143-28 record. Daley played on the PGA Tour in 1996 and 1998 and is currently on the Champions Tour, where he won the 2012 Senior Players Championship. Simons coached wrestling for 17 years, producing 27 wrestlers who qualified for nationals and five All-Americans. Fraim was a primary fundraiser for 32 years and was a driving force behind the ODU Baseball Clinic. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased after August 1 by calling 757.683.3359.
1:30 p.m., Homecoming Parade – Student organizations, bands, business and civic groups come together in this annual tradition to kick off the day’s celebration! Prime viewing spots are located on 49th Street and Hampton Boulevard. Free.
3:00 p.m., Kaufman Mall Opens. Join the pre-game festivities on Kaufman Mall featuring tailgating, live music, the pre-game radio show, and the football team’s walk through.
3:00 p.m., Alumni Tailgate Tent, Kaufman Mall – Come by and tailgate with other alumni, fans and students. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
6:00 p.m., Football, ODU vs. Liberty, Foreman Field at S. B. Ballard Stadium – A very limited number of Alumni Tailgate Tent packages (includes game ticket) are available, click here to purchase package. Ticket only purchases are not available at this time, check www.odusports.com for more details.
