New GEMBA Program will Increase Executives' Global Vision

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Today's entrepreneurial senior level executives have recognized the need for a increased global mindset and many are looking to Executive MBA programs to help increase their understanding of a complex global business environment. Dr. William Judge, E.V. Williams Chair of Strategic Leadership in the College of Business and Public Administration, explains" as more businesses today experience both foreign competition as well as foreign market demand and because most market growth today is in the emerging markets, there is a important need to focus executive education around the global economy."

To meet this need, Dr. Judge helped develop an Executive MBA program within ODU's College of Business in 2007. However, unlike traditional executive MBA programs, he realized ODU's offering could best meet the needs of "future captains of business" by giving it a global theme. After three years of planning, one of which was devoted entirely to establishing curriculum, Old Dominion University will launch its inaugural Global Executive Masters of Business session on January 8, 2011.

This 12-month Global EMBA will meet a demand for business leaders in the Hampton Roads region who previously did not have access to an Executive MBA program in the area. Yet due to the structure of the program, requiring only 6 residency periods - 4 on campus, 1 in Shanghai, China and 1 in São Palo, Brazil - the program remains an attractive option for industry executives anywhere.

Alumni of the program will graduate with a handle on the integration of global business activities as well as a network of executives from around the globe. Thanks to Dr. Judge's commitment to its development, ODU's GEMBA will play a large role in continuing the university's vast global reach.

Two information sessions, February 9, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center and February 23, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at The Berkeley Hotel, Richmond will offer prospective students the opportunity to meet the faculty as well as learn more about the program and how it can benefit their personal and corporate lives.

You can learn more about the sessions and the program on the departments website at www.bpa.odu.edu/gemba/
